BACKGROUND

Last fall, Zawyer Sports and Entertainment, an esteemed sports managerial company, announced the founding of a new development team. The Savannah Steel was launched and they’re slated for their inaugural season at the UpShot League in 2026. The first ever game the team played was against the Greensboro Groove. The Steel won their first ever game on May 22, in an incredible 85-67 win. For their second game on May 24 agains the Jacksonville Waves, Savannah Steel also secured the win with a score 75-78, just three points short. But still, it was a spectacular debut for a fresh new group that’s surely going to make history for Savannah basketball fans!

In addition to a fine roster, the Savannah Steel also hired an excellent coach, Coretta Brown. This esteemed coach was a first round pick in the WNBA Draft in 2003 where she was selected by the San Antonio Silver Stars. Her background is also deeply rooted in South Georgia as she was a star player in the Southeast Bulloch High School, where she was also named Gatorade Player of the Year. She also had a magnificent basketball career with the University of North Carolina. With such immense talent, leading the pack, we know the Savannah Steel is in good hands!
